Build A Room: Bold

I love earth tones, calming even tones, for those that follow this blog regularly have noticed this pattern. When on one of my used bookstore trips I came across a decorating book from the early 1970’s. I was stunned by how much ‘modern’ items have changed. How walls were painted crazy hues, and large bulky sofas anchored a room. Some of the pages had designs that were beyond belief; some were elegant, some were tacky, but all were intriguing. I started wondering: When did we all get so neutral in decor?

That thought inspired this blog, a bold crisp modern room design. With this challenge to myself, I give you a bold room!

Black and white, simply, is my pallet. Old ideas and a new chair is our jump off point:

This high quality chair from Malibu Club Chair/Camelot Chenille – Armen Art, oversized and armless, is amazing to look at and cozy to sit in!

Imagine two of these flanking a white fireplace on a black wall! A lot yes, but this blog is all about breaking out of beige! Don’t have a fireplace? Buy one!

So, we have two chairs, and maybe a fireplace depending on your and preferences. Now, how about some additional seating? A table? I got you covered, an amazing white leather sofa and black ottoman that feature the same tufting for flow fill out the space.

From the same line, but in black, this ottoman will be used as a coffee table. The tufting and lack of arms will help the various pieces in the room looking cohesive.

So there is the base of my room in a nutshell. A bold color painting above the fireplace could add a punch of color if you’d like, adding glass/shiny accents could also add more depth to the room. Remember if you have the inclination to break out of earth tones, great furniture is still around to oblige you. Purples, greens, rich blues, are all around waiting for a bold person to make a statement with. ‘Til next time…
